Observation Narrative
The plot captures low, annual herbaceous vegetation on a seasonally exposed sand bar along the shore of the Potomac River. The bar is strongly convex and, on the date of sampling, the substrate was quite wet. A small, silty channel lies between the bar and the forested floodplain; on the river side, the bar grades to a cobbley flat where plot SCRU018 is located within a monospecific stand of Justicia americana. By contrast, the low herbaceous bar is fairly diverse, with Lindernia dubia var. dubia, Ludwigia palustris, Cyperus squarrosus, Hemicarpha micrantha, Eragrostis hypnoides, and Paspalum fluitans most characteristic.
